“I’m very impressed with the BEGIN New Venture Center – they really care about their new companies and go the extra mile to help us be successful.”
When the economy got shaky in 2008, Mike Martin, a long-time KPLR TV news videographer, started his own business called Mike Martin Media. “I was afraid I was going to lose my job,” Mike recalls. And he did, so Mike Martin Media became his full-time venture.
Through networking, Mike was connected with St. Patrick Center’s communications team, and soon he was working with them as a freelance videographer to produce various program and event videos. “I have witnessed amazing people and programs at St. Patrick Center,” Mike says. “I feel blessed to have the opportunity to help the agency make a difference in people’s lives.”
While Mike worked on St. Patrick Center projects, he learned about the BEGIN New Venture Center (BNVC) small business incubator and thought it made sense for his company. About a year after he started Mike Martin Media, he signed up as a resident company and moved in to the BNVC. “Now I have a chance to really compete in the video production world because I have a professional space, networking and support that does not really exist anywhere else.”
Mike’s decision to “incubate” in the BNVC has been very beneficial. “I’ve expanded my client base, increased my business substantially and continue to reach my financial goals.” Mike also wants his company to help others as it grows. He hopes to provide employment opportunities to St. Patrick Center clients in the future!
