“The GO! Network gave me the opportunity to talk to people in a similar situation and see that I wasn’t alone in this.”
Sharifah Williams has been in the public relations and communications fields for nearly 20 years. However, when her employer told that her position was being moved to New York, she found herself without a job for the first time. One night at home, she heard a news story about GO! Network, a new initiative created by St. Patrick Center to help unemployed professionals. “I was familiar with the services and knew of the good work of St. Patrick Center, so I wanted to check out the GO! Network.”
After attending a number of the free weekly seminars, Sharifah felt encouraged and decided to contribute more of her time by joining the GO! Network’s marketing and program committees. “The emotional and practical benefits of this program have been endless,” says Sharifah. “You get a chance to network with other individuals and become resources for one another – you can’t put a price tag on these things.”
While Sharifah has taken some time off from her job search to raise her twins, she knows how important it is to lend her support to the GO! Network and other St. Patrick Center programs that help those struggling the most in our community. “Anytime you can help people who need it the most, it makes the community a better place to live.”
