At 18 months, GO! Network for unemployed professionals reports employment, training & educational outcomes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 4, 2010

(St. Louis, MO) St. Louis’ GO! Network continues to provide important, ongoing support, comfort and advice to the region’s displaced professionals 18 months after its inception. With regional unemployment rates lingering at nearly 10 percent, the value of the GO! Network remains critical.

According to research conducted by Celtic Creative, St. Patrick Center’s consulting division, no other community in America has put together such a diverse, comprehensive response to keep their unemployed professionals motivated and engaged. “GO! Network has helped hundreds of displaced professionals get back on their feet, but the need is still there,” says St. Patrick Center CEO Dan Buck. “We are very grateful to our sponsors and partners for the opportunity to continue to provide this important service to the St. Louis community.”

GO! Network measures its outcomes through membership, individual member success, community engagement, training and professional growth, economic development and connections to community resources.

Currently, there are 2,713 GO! Network members and early outreach efforts indicate that 26 percent are finding jobs. GO! Network outcomes also show that members are seeking further training and education — 377 are participating in its entrepreneurial education program and 101 have enrolled in Workforce Investment Act approved training resources.

The GO! Network was created in February 2009 in response to the needs of unemployed professionals following record St. Louis layoffs in the second half of 2008. Sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, United Way of Greater St. Louis, Celtic Creative, World Wide Technology, Right Management and Paramount Planning, the GO! Network has hosted more than 75 weeks of free professional seminars, workshops, speaker series and job fairs to inspire, motivate and connect people to employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. These seminars and workshops cover a variety of topics, including personal branding, networking, leveraging social media, self assessments, financial planning, resume writing and interviewing. Members also have the opportunity to connect with area employers during career fairs.

Registration and membership in the GO! Network is free. For more information about GO! Network events and job resources, including streaming video of previous sessions and employment success stories, visit www.gonetworkstl.com.
