“If it were not for St. Patrick Center, I would still be living my life as a selfish person, addicted to drugs and disconnected from my family.”

Hosia never thought it would happen to him. His downward spiral began when his severe anger management issues and addiction to drugs took over his life. Hosia’s selfish lifestyle caught up to him and he found himself homeless and estranged from his family for approximately 3-4 months.

After living on the streets for a few months Hosia attempted to get some help by going to a local homeless shelter, but his stay was short. Soon, a friend referred him to St. Patrick Center. Hosia decided to give it a try and came to the Shamrock Club Day Treatment Program, which provides treatment for homeless individuals who experience mental illness and/or substance abuse. When he arrived at St. Patrick Center, he knew that the Shamrock Club program was just what he needed. “You’ve got to help yourself… you have to want to,” says Hosia.

Hosia began to work with case managers on his anger and addiction issues. Since his start in the program, he has reconnected with his family and his children now refer to Hosia as their “role model.” In the future, Hosia hopes to continue to be a model for others to follow, which includes being a good father and helping others in need. Hosia’s advice to others in need is to use the resources that are available, especially St. Patrick Center. He also recommends that those struggling need to “believe, have faith and be patient with yourself.”
