“Thanks to St. Patrick Center, I’ve been able to re-connect with my family.”
Jamall has always struggled to find a place to call home. A diagnosis of schizophrenia and refusal of medication caused strife between him and his family. Jamall ended up homeless and sleeping on the streets. Once he realized that being homeless was not how he wanted to live, he entered a psychiatric facility with the goal to get healthy and gain his life back.
After a referral to St. Patrick Center, Jamall was transferred from the psychiatric facility to the agency’s Rosati Group home, a therapeutic housing program for individuals who need mental health stabilization and support. “It was a big step from being in a hospital which has your entire day planned out,” he says.
Thanks to the case management services and community engagement of the program, Jamall began taking his medication regularly, became more self-sufficient, learned healthier coping skills and a greater level of independence. “The Rosati Group Home stabilized me.”
Five months after staying in the Group Home, Jamall moved to Rosati Apartments, St. Patrick Center’s permanent, supportive housing complex for homeless persons with co-occurring disorders of mental illness and substance abuse. He continues to live happily in his own, brand-new apartment and is proud to call it home. He has also re-connected with his family since starting the Rosati programs. “My family finally has smiles on their faces when they see me… it’s great.”
