Meet Tom Etling, the new Chief Executive Officer of St. Patrick Center. Tom officially began his duties on April 11, 2011.
Tom Etling comes to St. Patrick Center from Metro, where he was Vice President of Marketing, responsible for Metro Transit’s rebranding and partnership efforts leading up to Proposition A in Spring 2010 in St. Louis County (which passed with 63% of the vote). In addition, he led the marketing communications practice for Metro’s tourism enterprises, including the Gateway Arch. Tom also led the collaboration for the recently launched Downtown Trolley and Forest Park Trolley. Prior to his career at Metro, he was a partner in a Wisconsin-based marketing communications consulting firm, working for clients in the consumer products, education, and sports and entertainment industries.
Tom has served on numerous boards and committees for organizations including the St. Louis Sports Commission, St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, Partnership for Downtown St. Louis, Central Catholic St. Nicholas School and Clayton Child Center. He received the Spirit of St. Louis award in 2009 for leading collaborative efforts including the New I-64 highway reconstruction marketing communications initiative.
Tom has prior experience with St. Patrick Center as President of the Development Board, which included a seat on the Board of Directors. He was introduced to SPC by his late father, Thomas H. Etling, who served on the Board of Directors for 14 years, including two years as Board President, prior to his death in 2002.
“I’m excited about this opportunity to help make an even larger impact on the lives of the people in our community who need St. Patrick Center’s programs and services the most,” says Tom Etling. “I look forward to working with the Board, our tremendous staff and community partners to further our mission in the St. Louis region.”
“Tom is very passionate about our agency and mission, and has a demonstrated history of getting results for St. Louis,” said Steve O’Hara, President of the St. Patrick Center Board of Directors. “We were fortunate to have several candidates for the CEO position but Tom stood out as the ideal choice,” said board member Joe Ambrose, First Bank president, who chaired the selection committee.
Tom Etling replaces Dan Buck, who departed St. Patrick Center in October 2010 after serving nearly eight years as CEO. Tom lives in Our Lady of the Pillar parish with his wife, Dr. Jennifer Etling, and their four children.
