FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 6, 2012
Congratulations to the winners of St. Patrick Center’s 8th Grade Essay Contest! Students across the St. Louis area were asked to write an essay about a day in the life of a homeless person and how they can make a positive change in others’ lives. Judges agreed that these students wrote the most thought-provoking and creative essays.
In 1st place winner Dawson Quinn’s own words: “At night you do your homework, wishing that school was no more. But I would trade anything to be able to read. I feel like an outcast.” Dawson attends St. Clare of Assisi School in Ellisville.
In 2nd place winner Elizabeth Hamilton’s own words: “I take the problems one day at a time. I cry, I fly, I believe and hope. That someday all around the globe, people will have a home.” Elizabeth attends St. Patrick School in Wentzville.
In 3rd place winner Kristina Khodai’s own words: “It’s hard to imagine having no place to call home, to feel so lost and hopeless, to feel so alone. So reach out to that family or the man that you see. What if you were the one with the sign on the street?” Kristina attends St. Ferdinand School in St. Louis.
Thank you to all of the participating schools and judges!
