Catholic Charities ministry St. Patrick Center recently acquired a $150,000 donation from the Archdiocese of St. Louis as they work to care for tenants displaced by evictions from Mark Twain Hotel. Since 1996, Mark Twain Hotel in downtown St. Louis has served as low-cost housing with 235 units rented on a weekly basis; as of 2026, the rent was only about $600 a month.

After numerous complaints and police calls about concerns for the living conditions and safety of the area, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway called for action from Mark Twain Hotel to come up with a solution. They in turn served eviction notices to all their residents with the timeline of a few weeks, and St. Patrick Center case managers have been working to rehouse the tenants and help them come up with funding for more permanent places.
