A Hand Up, Not a Handout

Brian Josephson, far right

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. This proverb embodies the work St. Patrick Center does for their clients”, says Brian, Co-Chair of St. Patrick Center’s Board of Ambassadors. For the past five years, he has seen this proverb in action at St. Patrick Center, where he feels clients are offered a hand up, not a handout.

For Brian Josephson, what began as an invitation to join the Irish Open committee as well as supporting St. Patrick Center with his treasures, has since blossomed into a true passion for helping people experiencing housing disparities. Along with donating his time to advancing the mission, Brian also lends his talents to the clients and staff at St. Patrick Center through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Brian loves working with those who receive support from St. Patrick Center as well as the staff. “The staff at St. Patrick Center is second to none. The volunteer team is equally fantastic”, says Brian, “Everyone has a desire to help those in need, as that is what we all should want to do as disciples of Christ.”

Brian loves a good client success story. He really enjoys hearing about the hard work and dedication by the clients and everyone involved with St. Patrick Center. He often shares these stories with a group from his church to get others involved and engaged with St. Patrick Center. One thing Brian regrets, although, is not finding an opportunity to get involved sooner! He encourages anyone who feels they are being called to support St. Patrick Center to, “act upon your calling and do not hesitate”. To act now, visit St. Patrick Center’s website at www.stpatrickcenter.org to learn how you can get involved today.
