Tim

Veteran Soars Because of Man’s Best Friend

Tim has worked many jobs in his life, but one thing is always true: “I enjoy helping people.” This
honorably discharged Air Force Veteran was working at the VA when he resigned. Not long after, Tim
began to fall behind on the rent and he knew he was going to have to turn things around, “I was working with St. Patrick Center, I’m going to do everything I can to get a job.”

But asking for help was a big hurdle for Tim. When he came to St. Patrick Center,  he gave his name and information and was told “we’re going to help you out.” Overwhelmed with happiness, Tim admits it was not easy to walk in our doors. “It’s hard for a veteran to come forward…It was hard for me to swallow my pride and ask for help, but I did it.”

Then man’s best friend entered Tim’s life in the form of Patriot. Patriot has been with Tim through the ups and downs of life. When Tim was on the verge of suicide, it was Patriot who brought him around. “I have my dog. I’m not going to hurt myself. I wouldn’t do that to him. He’s been here for me.”

Today, Tim’s goal is to keep providing a good home for himself and Patriot as he looks for a new job. In the past he served his country, but now he knows his service is listening and speaking with others. He shares with others the lesson he learned: “If you’re not involved, St. Patrick Center will get you involved. You gotta step forward and say, ‘Hey. I’m here, I need help.’ ”
